QUESTION 1
Read the extract below and answer the questions that follow.

All religions have a set of beliefs about the nature of divinity, humanity, the world, creation and other parts of life. Such broad beliefs are referred to as religious teachings. 

1.1 Discuss the central teachings of any ONE religion under the following headings:
1.1.1 The place and responsibility of humanity in the world (10)
1.1.2 The nature of the world (10)
1.1.3 The origin and the role of evil (10)
1.2 Every religion contains teachings about life after death. Why is this so? Discuss this with reference to ONE religion. (20)

Every religion has some beliefs that all the religion's followers share. However, within most religions, interpretations of beliefs may differ from one school of thought to another. 

2.1 Explain the historical reasons why internal differences exist in the following religions:
2.1.1 Hinduism (10)
2.1.2 Christianity (10)
2.1.3 African Traditional Religion (10)
2.2 With reference to any ONE religion, discuss the internal differences that exist in terms of governance (organisation of the religion). (20)

Read the extract below and answer the questions that follow.

FRIEND AND SANGOMA LINKED TO KZN CRICKETER'S MURDER

The headless body of Nawaaz Khan was found by the police in a forest near his Umzinto home at the weekend.
A 21-year-old friend of Khan was expected to appear in the Umzinto Magistrate's Court today. He told the police that he had consulted a traditional healer, who told him that a human head was required to solve his personal problems. 

3.1 Identify any FIVE causes of crime and violence in our communities. (10)
3.2 Discuss the teachings of any ONE religion that specifically address the issues of crime and violence. (28)
3.3 Do you think religious organisations can reduce crime and violence? Give reasons for your answer. (12)

Each religious tradition has a beginning, a source, which is normative. People return to normative sources over and over again to find answers they are looking for. 

In the light of the above statement, discuss the following:
4.1.1 The role of sacred texts in various religions (10)
4.1.2 The role played by inspiration in the development of any ONE religion (20)
4.2 Read the statement below and answer the question that follows.

Science is about how things happen; religion is about why things happen. 

In the light of the above statement, discuss the reaction of any ONE religion to Darwin's theory of evolution. (20)
